Cyclist suffers fracture, claims Dunzo rider hijacked lane

Bengaluru: Yet another incident of a cyclist being grievously injured while riding in the city has come to light. Vishnu Raned, a resident of Bengaluru, took to Twitter to call out the incident.
In his tweets, Raned explained that an accident took place on Sunday morning in the south division of Bengaluru, which led to an autistic young cyclist fracturing his arm. He alleged that the accident was caused by an irresponsible Dunzo rider who was riding in the wrong direction.
Raned said that along with an X-ray of the fractured arm, the cyclist now needs to be operated upon and have plates inserted to be able to use his hand. The Dunzo rider allegedly abused the cyclist and first responder before speeding away.
Ironically, the incident took place a stone’s throw away from the Bengaluru police south division headquarters. The cyclist was in full gear and wearing a helmet while cycling.
“It’s about time these Dunzo riders and their management (who have conveniently blocked such tweets) are seriously held accountable,” Raned continued, and questioned how much more funding they would require to sensitise their riders on riding and behaviour. Tagging police authorities, Raned has called for the accused to be held accountable.
Other netizens have replied with their own experiences of motorists taking cyclists for granted on the thread. “A problem for cyclists everywhere in India. Motorcyclists and cars on the wrong side tend to use the extreme left lanes where cyclists ride.
A fall is a fall, whatever precautions you take,” said Tanuja Kothiyal. “On Bengaluru roads, cyclists don’t get respect from automobile drivers. Five years ago, I was hit by an auto from behind, leading to a fracture of my hand. The auto didn’t even bother to stop. From that day, I left cycling on the roads,” replied Tejaswi.
