Pothole death: This time it's a 24-yr-old

Bengaluru: Just days after the Karnataka high court pulled up the civic body, BBMP for failing to do a proper job on filling the potholes on city roads, one more pothole-related accident has occurred in the city leaving one person dead and two others injured.

Most main roads in the city are dotted with gaping potholes making riding on them a dangerous exercise though some haphazard attempts have been made to fill them. The incident took place late Saturday evening in Attur Layout, located in Yelahanka.

The deceased is a student from Kerala who was studying at a private college in the city and has been identified as Harshad, 24. Harshad was riding a bike when he was hit by a car with the car driver reportedly losing control while trying to negotiate a pothole.

The cops said there were three potholes along the stretch of over 100 metres. After the wet spell on Saturday evening, the potholes were filled with rainwater, probably making it difficult for the car driver to notice them.

The driver hence lost control veering towards Harshad’s bike coming in the opposite direction and hitting it. The car driver and the pillion rider on the bike were left grievously injured and are said to be critical. The Congress took to Twitter to slam the authorities saying Harshad was the third person to fall victim to the ‘pothole menace’ in Bengaluru, in a span of 30 days.
