Dasarahalli roads dotted with large potholes

Bengaluru: The roads in the Dasarahalli region, including the Peenya Industrial Area, which is Asia's largest, is riddled with potholes. Among the eight zones of BBMP, Dasarahalli is the smallest and has only one assembly constituency. However, the problem of potholes in the area is alarming.

“The number of potholes in Dasarahalli zone has increased. The pothole sealing work has now started and hopefully it will be completed soon,” said Ranganath, BBMP Chief Engineer, Dasarahalli Zone. As a result of double than average rains in the city this year, the roads in Dasarhalli area are in shambles.

It is a challenge for motorists, especially bikers, and even others find it difficult to negotiate the cavernous potholes. “The area has big deadly potholes. Every day we hear news of some or the other accident due to potholes. Still the civic agencies are not doing enough. It is difficult to commute in the area due to potholes, and during rain the condition becomes worse,” said Sujit, a frequent commuter to Peenya.

According to BBMP, more than two thousand road potholes have been counted in Dasarahalli assembly constituency. However, the number of potholes that have not been counted is said to be three times more. Out of 499 potholes detected so far in Peenya Industrial Area Ward of Dasarahalli Zone, only 23 have been closed while an overwhelming 476 remain.

In Bagalgunte ward, out of 442 potholes, 151 have been closed and 291 remain. In Chokkasandra, 280 potholes are pending closure, while there are 155 in Shettihalli, 59 in T Dasarahalli, 20 in Mallasandra ward, 19 in Rajagopal Nagar and 17 in Hegganahalli. The roads in Dasarahalli zone are the best example of poor construction.

Potholes have appeared again on the Tumakuru road from Iserghatta main road, which was asphalted a few days ago. Despite recent asphalting, due to rain several potholes have been created. “Dasarahalli zone has been ignored by the government.

Therefore, special grants and development projects have not been sanctioned for this area. Due to this the work of fixing roads has to be done with the minimum grant available,” said Ranganath.
