Not sweet: Chaos at PM’s event as cops called to control crowd

Bengaluru: In a chaotic incident, people who had gathered outside the venue where Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the citizens, were seen thronging a truck that was distributing free sweets to them. According to sources, several people attended the PM’s public function in Devanahalli on Friday.
The incident took place soon after the PM and his convoy left the place and a truck drove in to distribute free sweets to the people. Hundreds of people were seen rushing toward the truck, pushing each other in order to receive the free sweets, as there was no proper queue or any other sequence during the distribution.
Soon the truck ran out of sweets, and the people started climbing onto the truck demanding more sweets. As the situation turned out of control, a team of policemen was called in to control the desperate crowd that was trying to forcefully climb onto the vehicle.
Incidents of this sort are common in rural areas after political rallies, where many villagers are called in either with the promise of cash or distribution of liquor and food
Commuters left in the lurch
Due to the PM’s visit to the city, Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) services from the Majestic bus terminus were suspended from 10 am to 12 in the noon, causing a disruption in the daily lives of commuters.
Along with this, to facilitate the unveiling of the 5th Vande Express, the South Western Railways had diverted many trains arriving to Bengaluru without prior notice, causing trouble to those who were relying on the railways to reach their destinations.
The passengers were only sent a message close to the departure time, with details of the rescheduled timings.
