Bengaluru: After receiving a huge backlash from residents and several raps from the High Court, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) after its hurried pothole-filling exercise has claimed to have adhered to all the norms while repairing the roads within the deadline it had set before taking up the repair works.
Following reports of several deaths and injuries recently, the civic body had promised to repair the roads and fill up potholes in the city by November 10. Now the BBMP is all set to submit the summary report of the road works carried out to the state government.
According to the latest report, the BBMP claimed to have identified 21,734 potholes in the city during the survey, out of which it claimed to have repaired only, 15852 potholes, while 5882 remain to be filled up. It has further stated that it has identified the majority of the potholes around Bengaluru East and Dasarahalli Division.
East Division: As per the BBMP data, 5776 potholes were identified near the Bengaluru East Division out of which 4130 potholes have been fi xed and 1646 are still remaining.
West Division: So far 4501 potholes were identified by the BBMP out of which 4079 have been filled up. The number of remaining potholes here is 422.
South Division: BBMP claims to have identified 1915 potholes here out of which 1514 were filled up and work on 401 potholes is still pending.
Bommanahalli Division: Here, the BBMP stated to have identified 1409 potholes out of which 1090 are claimed to have been fixed leaving 319 as still pending.
Dasarahalli Division: So far 1918 potholes were identified and 601 fixed leaving 1317 potholes to be filled up.
Mahadevapura Division: A total of 2004 potholes were identifi ed here by the BBMP and 1409 potholes were claimed to have been fixed already. Further 509 potholes are yet to be fixed.
RR Nagar Division: As many as 3196 potholes were identified here with 2351 claimed to have been fi xed by the BBMP and 845 potholes are yet to be fixed.
Yelahanka: Here the BBMP claimed to have identifi ed 1015 potholes. While it reports that 592 have been fixed, 423 potholes are yet to be filled.
While citizens had alleged that the BBMP had undertaken the road fixing works only because of the Prime Minister’s visit, BBMP officials claimed that the pothole filling was part of the ongoing work.
“It is a routine for the authorities that whenever the PM arrives in the city, the areas he visits get a facelift. Several people died and were injured only due to the potholes. However, it seems that the civic body is set to work on infrastructure only if Modi comes to the city,” said a resident from Hebbal.
