Providing strays a home and life of dignity

Bengaluru: Mylos Rescue in collaboration with Jeeva Pet Hospital conducted an adoption camp on Saturday for stray dogs and puppies at Jeeva Pet Hospital.
During the event, many families shared their joys of adopting a pet versus buying one. There were several dogs up for adoption at the event along with free goodies, veterinary consultation, training advice and games for pets and their families.
There were around 60 pets from which 4-5 animals got adopted and others were booked. This is the second camp in a week and 13 puppies have been adopted so far.
"We have been rescuing and feeding stray dogs and other animals since 2012. Our team continuously strives for the welfare of the injured, abandoned and sick animals. The main purpose is to search, find and rescue stray, injured dogs and unwanted abandoned dogs by owners; to establish and facilitate the comfort of stray animals by maintaining an animal shelter that promotes health, care, safety and also help them with a decent send-off,” said Lakshmi Swaminathan, founder, Mylos Rescue.
She said the mission of the NGO is to create a “stray animal-free society where all the dogs are given a loving home at Mylos until they find a home of their own. We work towards this by conducting vaccination, sterilization and adoption drives at regular intervals to ensure we achieve the desired goal.”
Stray dogs lack proper nutrition, live in filthy conditions and often fall prey to various diseases. They also sometimes get hit or run over by vehicles. BBMP’s efforts to control the stray dog population through sterilisation have been far from successful.
In many areas there are too many stray dogs and sometimes they even pose a threat to pedestrians and motorists, especially during late nights. Incidents of dog bites and rabies get reported in various parts of the city from time to time.
