Violated traffic rules? Notice will come via SMS

Bengaluru: The city traffic police are going digital to serve the traffic violation notices to the violators. Till now, the notices were being sent by post to the address of the violators based on the address proof provided to the transport department at the time of purchasing the vehicles.
Henceforth the traffic police will send SMS (short message service) the details of the violation and the fine amount to be paid to the violator to their mobile phone number provided to the transport authorities at the time of vehicle registration.
This will reduce the burden to the state exchequer and help the traffic police deploy their men for other traffic duties. For every notice, the traffic police will save Rs 4.30 by going digital. Earlier the department was spending Rs 4.50 to send each notice and by going digital it will spend only 20 paisa.
The SMS will have a weblink from where the traffic violator can print a receipt or check the details of the violation. The traffic police prints around 20,000 receipts daily and by going digital it will be cutting down on the expenses and the manpower.
“The move is to alert the traffic violator immediately. Earlier it was taking time to inform the violator about the violations they have committed,” said an officer attached to the Bengaluru City Traffic.
The details of the SMS will have the name of the violator along with the details of the vehicle’s registration number, place where the traffic violation was committed, the date, time and the fine amount that needs to be paid.
