
ISRO scientist duped of 18 lakh, promised medical seat for daughter

Bengaluru: City police are on the lookout for a person who allegedly duped a Mumbai-based ISRO scientist of Rs 18 lakh by promising a medical seat for his daughter here. As per the complaint filed at the Upparpet police station, the accused has been named Arun Das.
A resident of the CGS colony of Mumbai, Chidananda Shivappa Mugdum, is a scientist working with the Indian Space Research Organisation. While the scientist was seeking a medical seat for his daughter in Bengaluru, the accused Arun Das had contacted him through a phone call and promised to help him.
Later, the accused also visited Shivappa’s residence in Mumbai and verified the educational certificates of his daughter. As per the sources, he promised the victim a seat in BGS Global Institute of Medical Science in the city and demanded Rs 10 lakh as college fee and an additional Rs 18 lakh as a donation.
As asked by Arun, the victim reached Bengaluru along with the money, his daughter and one of his relatives to meet Arun. The accused issued his cheque as a guarantee and took the money from the victim and said that he would come back for admission.
However, when there was no response from the accused for a long time, the victim realised that he had been trapped and decided to approach the police.Further investigation to nab the accused is on, police said.
