Bengaluru: In a heart-breaking incident, a 17-year-old girl ended her life by jumping off from the 13th floor of an apartment building in Byatarayanapura Police Station limits, police said on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Vijayalakshmi, a first PUC student of Commerce and a resident of Nagarbhavi in Bengaluru.

What's more shocking was that the student had allegedly travelled all the way to Dharmasthala in Dakshina Kannada to end her life by jumping off into the Nethravathi river dam just two days before her death here.

Fortunately, a few locals there rescued her, called her parents and sent her back to Bengaluru. The jurisdictional police in the city suspect that the girl was mentally depressed.

Close family aides of the deceased told News Trail that the girl's parents had separated following a divorce and Vijayalakshmi used to stay with her mother, Yashodha, here.

The sources said that the girl went missing on Tuesday after informing her mother that she was going to college. However the next day she was reportedly seen at Dharmasthala.

After coming back to the city, she walked into an apartment opposite to BHEL factory near Deepanjali Nagar and allegedly committed suicide on Thursday. The reason for her extreme step however could not be ascertained.

The Byatarayanapura Police visited the spot and inspected the body before shifting it to Victoria Hospital for a post mortem analysis. A case was registered by the police.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru West Division, S Girish, said that when a security guard stopped the girl from entering the apartment, she falsely claimed to be a guest of the family residing at the 9th floor of the building.

However, she went up to the terrace and jumped to her death. In the meantime, the girl’s mother, who had initially thought that Vijayalakshmi had gone to her friend's house, began to worry when she could not find her for the last two days.

She filed a missing complaint with the Jnana Bharati police station. However, Yashodha was shocked when she was informed about the death of her daughter by the police.
