Brother, sister drown after falling into lake; boy's body found

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: A search operation is underway for a brother and sister who went missing after falling into a lake opposite Kengeri bus stand while playing. The body of Srinivas (13) from Harsha Layout has been found, while the search for his sister, Mahalakshmi (11), continues. Srinivas and Mahalakshmi, children of Jayamma, were playing on the walking path by the lake around 5:30 pm on Monday. Mahalakshmi dropped her bindi into the lake and went down to retrieve it, only to be submerged.

Seeing her struggle, Srinivas rushed to save her but tragically drowned as well. Police arrived at the scene, alerted the fire brigade, and began a search. Srinivas' body was found three hours later. Due to heavy rain and darkness, the search for Mahalakshmi was temporarily halted and resumed this morning. A case has been registered at Kengeri police station.

Commenting on the incident, City Police Commissioner B Dayanand called it a tragic event, noting that the siblings drowned while fetching water. The boy's body was recovered on Tuesday, and the search for the girl continues.
