K’taka HC stays order telling Ola to pay woman

Bengaluru, NT Bureau: A Karnataka High Court (HC) Division Bench on Friday stayed a single judge order that had directed the parent company of Ola Cabs to pay Rs 5 lakh to a woman passenger. She had complained of sexual harassment at the hands of an Ola cabbie back in 2018. Lawyer Dhyan Chinnappa, appearing on behalf of the parent company ANI Technologies, argued that the manner in which the court order interpreted the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (PoSH Act) was incorrect. He said that cabbies weren’t employed by Ola. “We don't employ the drivers.

The drivers employ OLA... Drivers are independent contractors,” Chinnappa told the court. The two-member Division Bench stayed the earlier order responding to an appeal by ANI Technologies.
