Pavement encroachment clearance operation held on Church Street

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: A clearance operation to address pavement encroachments was conducted on Church Street in the eastern zone of the city on Friday. The operation, led by BBMP East Zone Commissioner, Snehal R, aimed to remove illegal obstructions on the footpath, which have posed challenges for pedestrians. Despite multiple warnings issued to shop owners about footpath encroachments, around 50 shops on both sides of Church Street were found to be violating regulations. The operation covered approximately 1 km of the road and involved police personnel, corporation officials, and marshals.

During the operation, over 20 workers, along with 2 tippers and 6 tractors, were deployed to clear material from the pavement. Shop owners were reminded not to encroach on footpaths in future. Snehal highlighted the health and safety risks associated with cooking on the pavement and using gas cylinders in open areas, which could lead to accidents. The encroachments not only hinder pedestrian movement but also contribute to traffic issues and a higher risk of accidents. BBMP Zonal Joint Commissioner Saroja, Executive Engineer Munireddy, and other officials were present during the operation.
