Two arrested for defrauding businessman of Rs 1.5 crore

NT Correspondent Bengaluru: The Byadarahalli police station here have arrested two accused who cheated a businessman of Rs 1.57 crore while promising to provide a medical seat. Virupakshappa and Manjappa have been arrested on the charge of defrauding the businessman based in West Bengal. In 2022, Virupakshappa, who was the businessman's acquaintance, introduced another accused, Manjappa to him while he was trying to secure his daughter a medical seat.

Manjappa allegedly claimed he knew the management board of a prestigious medical college in Bengaluru and important officials of the medical education department and promised a seat following which the businessman reportedly paid him Rs 1.57 crore, according to the complaint.


Later, the accused reportedly told the businessman that since he was unable to secure a medical college seat, he would 'double' the given money in the stock market. The complaint said that the accused did not return the money even after 2 years and even threatened the businessman.
